Profile

The Mechanical Engineering Department was one of the First Departments to be started in this Institution in 1980. The Department offers UG, PG, MSc Engineering (By Research) and Ph.D. programmes. The Department was Accredited for 03 years by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) in the year 2004 and for 05 years in the year 2007. The department has bagged 01 UG university rank and 10 PG ranks. The Mechanical Engineering Association was started in the year 1995. It has well established Departmental Library since 1996 and has adequate number of useful books. The university has recognized the department as Research Centre for awarding Ph.D. and M.Sc. Engg. by research. A total number of 24 research scholars are undergoing Ph.D. programme in the Research Centre. The Department received Rs 11.5/- lakhs grant from AICTE towards “Modernization of Design Laboratory” during the year 2013. Rs. 15.5 Lakhs have been sanctioned by AICTE for carrying out R & D Projects at our R & D Centre during 2012-2014. Also the department is conducting Workshops, Seminars, Faculty development programs for the benefits of students, Research Scholar and faculty members.

Programme Educational Objectives:

1. To produce highly capable Mechanical engineers equipped with strong Mechanical engineering and allied fundamentals necessary to face the professional competition and achieve excellence.

2. To produce Mechanical engineers who can demonstrate their analytical, design skills and abilities to apply the principles of mathematics, basic sciences and engineering in effectively overcoming mechanical engineering problems and challenges in their professional career.

3. To produce Mechanical engineers with practical knowledge, positive attitude, sense of responsibility and strong professional ethics clubbed with zeal for lifelong learning and research.

Programme Outcomes:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized

1.A technical talk on ‘Mechanical Softwares’ by Mr. Vinay D.C., an Alumni & Senior Engineer, Khshipra Simulations Bangalore, on 16th March 2015 .

2.Mechanical Engineering Association organized a technical lecture on ‘Alternate Fuels’ by Dr. D.K. Ramesh, Assoc. Prof., U.V.C.E., Bangalore on 20th March 2015.

3.Mr. Vidya Shankar M.N., Business Manager, Institute of Industrial Design, Jayanagar, Bangalore delivered a Seminar on ‘Advanced Design Softwares for Aerospace and Automobile Engineering Applications’ on 23rd March 2015.

4.The department organized one day workshop on ‘Process Automation and Non-destructive Testing’ on 22nd April 2015. Mr. Umesh Krishnamurthy, Vice President, AUMA India Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore and Mr. Sudarshan Patwardhan, Director, Shree Associates, Bangalore, both are Alumni of our college delivered the technical talks.

5.The department organized a Technical Talk on “Design of Welding and Piping for Oil and Gas Piplines” by Mr. Vaibhav S Inamdar, Chief Learning Officer, NextGen Constructions, Bangalore on 19th August 2014.

6.A training programme on “Pro-E conducted for 2nd and 3rd year students .The duration of the course is one months .About fifty students participated in this programme.

7.A training programme on “Aero Robotics ” conducted for all engineering students, during 5th April 2013. The programme duration was 48hours.

8.The department organized one day workshop on “Rapid prototyping & Manufacturing technology” in collaboration with Additive Manufacturing society of India (AMSI), Bangalore on 3rd April 2013.

9.A course and training on “Pro-E" by CADMAX Engineering Solutions, Bangalore has been conducted to the final and pre final students of the department during the months Feb to April 2013. A total number of 46 students participated.

10.The department organized one day workshop on “Analysis of Computational fluid Dynamics" in collaboration with Ingersoland, Bidadi during the month of April 2013.

11.The department organised four days VTU-VGST Government of Karnataka sponsored Faculty Development Programme on ‘Solar Energy and Thermal Engineering’ during 19th to 22nd August 2013.

12.The department organized a Technical Talk on “Research on Advanced Materials” by Dr. Andalib Tariq, Assoc. Prof., Mechanical Dept., I.I.T., Roorkee, and also an Alumni of our college on 28th November 2013.
