The R & D center of Mechanical Department, approved by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), was started in the year 2002. Dr. K. Ramachandra (former Director of GTRE) is Director of R&D center & Dr. Byre Gowda H.V. is the head of the R&D center. So far 8 research Scholars have completed Ph.D from the Centre. About 20 scholars are currently pursuing Ph.D. The centre is carrying out research in the following areas.
1.Production & testing of Composite Materials and hybrid Composites
2.Fatigue analysis
3.Finite Element Analysis & Simulation
4.Biomedical applications
5.Solar Energy
6.Bio Materials
A research project on Aerospace application sponsored by AICTE under RPS scheme worth Rs 15.15 lakhs has been sanctioned and is completed.
