Since then, the department has grown to greater heights of success with Research Centre being sanctioned by VTU in the year 2000 and M. Tech. Programme in the year 2003.

All the degrees are awarded by VTU, Belgaum.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 1980 affiliated to Bangalore University offering four years under graduate programme in B.E., Mechanical. The department focuses on developing knowledge and skills in several areas of general mechanical engineering including computer integrated manufacturing. The department is now affiliated to Visveswaraiah Technological University since 1998.

The department is headed by an experienced leader with scholarship, well assisted by qualified and dedicated faculty members. The faculty members have specialized in Materials Technology, Design Engineering, Production Engineering, Thermal Engineering and CAD/CAM areas.

Excellent academic and research environment exists ensuring imparting of high quality education to U.G. students. The department has well equipped laboratories to cater to the needs of the U.G., P.G. and Ph.D. students.

The department has established linkages with various Research Organizations/Industries to get the expertise of the experts from such organizations for the benefit of our student and staff members.

Further the department organizes continuous education programmes by way of technical lectures, seminars and workshops on relevant areas to ensure bridging of the gap between academic syllabus and the industrial practices. Visveswaraiah Technological University has recognized the department as the research centre for awarding Ph.D./ M.Sc. Engg. by research.

The research centre is progressing with research contribution in the form of many Technical papers in reputed National and International Journals and Conferences. The Department also offers M.Tech. programme in Manufacturing Science and Engineering.

The Mechanical Engineering Department has organized several continuing educational Programmes/Seminars/Workshops for the benefit of teachers of various Engineering colleges as well as working professionals from Industries.

The department is fortunate to have the services of Dr. A. Ramachandra, Principal and Dr. C.S. Ramesh, Professor & Director, Research centre who are known as faculty of expertise in the field of Mechanical Engineering through out the state of Karnataka.

To undertake Research, Development and Consultancy in various areas of Mechanical Engineering.
To conduct Continuing Education / Training programme in various fields of Mechanical Engineering for working professionals from industries and faculty members of various Engineering Colleges.
To make available to the industries/Institutions the Infrastructure facilities existing in the Department
To make available to the Industries/ Organizations the results of the innovative work carried out in the Dept.

To Disseminate the Knowledge and Research findings through Technical papers presented and published in conferences/seminars/ journals at the National and International level.
To Develop learning resource materials, such as Monographs, Transparencies, Film Slides, Audio/ Video Tapes, Charts and Demonstration Models to supplement class room teaching.
To offer Counseling to UG/PG/Ph.D. Students related to their academic/ Professional career.
